Gutter questions, answered straight

Calling, estimates, and scheduling

How fast will you call me back?

The same day. Call or send the form before 6 PM and you hear from us that day. After 6 PM, expect a call first thing the next morning.

What are your hours?

Sunday through Saturday, 6 AM to 6 PM. Yes, Sundays too.

Are estimates free?

Yes. We come out, measure, look at the whole roofline, and give you a written price at no cost.

Can I get a quote from photos?

For simple jobs like a cleaning or a small repair, photos often let us give you a price before we visit. Add them to the quote form. Larger jobs need an on-site measure.

Do I need to be home?

For an estimate, it helps so we can talk through options. For most cleanings, no. We send photos when we are done.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. GutterWorks is licensed and insured, and we can send a certificate of insurance if you need one.

New gutters

What are seamless gutters?

Gutters formed on-site from one continuous piece of metal, cut to the exact length of each roof edge. With no joints along the run, there are far fewer places to leak.

What size gutters do I need?

It depends on the roof size, pitch, and how many valleys feed each run. Because Charleston gets so much heavy rain, many homes do best with 6 inch gutters. Try the roof water calculator on our homepage, then let us measure.

How long does installation take?

Most homes are done in one day. Copper, very large homes, or jobs that need fascia repair first can take two.

Do you install copper and half-round gutters?

Yes, including on historic homes. Homes in historic districts may need approval before exterior changes, and we can match what is already there.

What colors do gutters come in?

Aluminum gutters come in a wide range of colors. We bring samples so you can match your trim, and we can match HOA requirements.

Cleaning and gutter guards

How often should gutters be cleaned in Charleston?

At least twice a year, in spring after the live oaks shed and in late fall after the pines and hardwoods drop. Under heavy trees, three or four times a year, or add guards.

What is included in a cleaning?

Gutters cleared by hand, debris bagged and hauled off, gutters and downspouts flushed, a check of hangers, seams, and fascia, and before and after photos.

Are gutter guards worth it?

For most homes with trees nearby, yes. They keep leaves and needles out so gutters keep flowing. No guard is zero maintenance, but they cut cleaning way down.

Which guard is best for pine needles?

Stainless micro-mesh. Needles slip through or get stuck in many other guards.

Repairs, wood rot, and drainage

Should I repair or replace my gutters?

If the problem is in one or two spots, repair. If old sectional gutters leak at many joints or are too small for the roof, replacement usually costs less over time. We show you both prices.

Do you fix the rotted wood behind gutters?

Yes, in-house. We replace soft fascia and soffit and wrap the fascia in aluminum or copper so it does not rot again.

Where should my downspouts drain?

Several feet away from the house, onto ground that slopes away or into an underground drain line. A downspout that empties at the foundation can put hundreds of gallons against it in one storm.

Do you install French drains?

Yes, along with underground downspout drains and clearing of clogged drain lines.

Can you help after a storm?

Yes. We are open 7 days a week. Call and we will secure loose gutters quickly and come back for full repairs.
